Plain-language summary
Clariva reads text only after you ask it to. The browser extension accesses the active webpage only when you click the extension, use its keyboard shortcut or choose its context-menu action. Clariva does not sell personal information or use page content for advertising.
Text and natural-voice processing
When you start reading, the selected text or extracted webpage section is sent securely to Clariva's speech service and its contracted natural-voice provider, ElevenLabs, solely to generate the requested audio and word timing. The extension does not save the page text or generated audio. Do not use Clariva for information you are not authorised to process.
Dictation and transcription
Clariva requests microphone access only after you press Record. Audio or video is sent to ElevenLabs only after you press Transcribe, solely to create the requested text, timestamps and optional speaker labels. The source recording is not added to your Clariva library. Recent transcript text is stored in that browser so you can reopen and edit it; you can remove each transcript from the workspace.
Guest use and accounts
You can use Clariva without an account; guest readings and preferences stay in that browser's local storage. If you choose to sign in, Clariva synchronises your library, progress, notes, folders, tags and preferences to your private cloud account. Temporary private readings are not included in cloud synchronisation.
Account security
Authentication and cloud storage are provided through Clariva's managed cloud infrastructure. Database row-level security restricts library records to the authenticated owner, and anonymous table access is disabled. Clariva does not use advertising identifiers or cross-site tracking.
Sensitive pages
Clariva blocks known password, payment, banking, checkout and sign-in screens. Form controls, password fields and payment fields are excluded from webpage extraction.
Permissions
The extension uses active-tab access only after a user action, scripting permission to place the reader controls on that active page, storage for local preferences and context-menu permission for “Read selection” and “Read this page” actions. Network access is restricted to the Clariva speech service.
Retention and sharing
The extension itself retains no reading text or audio. Service providers may process requests to deliver speech or transcription, prevent abuse and maintain security under their applicable service terms. Clariva does not sell or rent reading or transcription content.
Your choices
You can stop reading at any time, use Clariva as a guest, sign out to remove account data from that browser, clear local reader or extension storage, disable or remove the extension, and revoke its site access using browser settings.
